Hi! I am your 5th grade Science Bilingual Teacher at Strawn Elementary. I am also excited to lead the 5th grade team this year. I am from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas where I started my teaching career at La Joya Independent School District that gave me my Elementary and Secondary Education. I taught 6 years at Benavides Elementary in Sullivan City (La Joya ISD) and the past 16 years with Austin ISD. With Austin ISD, I worked at Joslin Elementary for 13 years and the past 3 years at Guerrero Thompson Elementary. I have worked as a Reading Specialist, 5th grade Self-Contained Bilingual Teacher, Math/Science teacher. I follow the STEM model in my teaching content. I am a graduate from St. Edwards University and received my masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University.
I have a husband, 4 nieces ( 2 who have graduated from Lockhart High) , 2 nephews, 5 sisters, my loving parents, and a precious dog named Grace. I also have 2 turtles named Tiffany and Yertle (rescued) which will often visit the 5th grade science classroom.
As an advocate for sustainability, I have a passion for gardening, conservation of natural resources including recycling and composting. I hope to be able to start an outdoor garden at Strawn Elementary with the collaboration of students, parents and staff.
Communication will be very important in order to support the academic and personal growth of your child. I look forward to working closely with you to reach those goals. You are always welcomed to Room #210, feel free to leave email or call as needed. Go Lions!!!
